18 months

So Caleb is technically I guess, 18 and a half months now... but I wanted to wait until we went to the doctor for his 18 month check-up before posting- so I could have his stats included.

We actually went to the doctor last week for his check-up, however, it turned into a sick visit and was very quickly determined that he had the Flu. They first tested for RSV, but after finding out how high his temperature had been, they decided to test for the flu as well. The flu test came back positive even before the allotted time. So the doctor talked to me about his illness and then we decided that we'd come back in about a week or two for his 18 month appointment.

Anyway, last week, he was 32 1/2 inches long and weighed 26 lbs. We went to the doctor on Thursday. Caleb had lost a little weight- 25lbs. 6 oz. is how much he weighed then.

The doctor thinks Caleb is doing just fine. I was a bit concerned about his language development and when I expressed my concerns and what I was doing about them, the ped. said that he thought I was doing more than a speech therapist would be doing with him at this point. So, we agreed that I would continue to work with him and that he'd see Caleb in a couple of months. He said that a lot of babies have a language boom around 21 or 22 months. He noted that he'd be seeing me before Caleb turned 2 anyway because I'd bring in the new baby. His gross and fine motor skills are really good.

Since my last post has so many pictures and shows so much of what we all did as a family, I will likely limit this post some.

- This month Caleb had his first dentist appointment. He did pretty awesome. We just wanted to get his teeth checked and they're fine and he really doesn't need to go back until he's about 3 unless we notice any problems. We try to brush his teeth twice a day, but we definitely brush every night before bed. He is now pretty good at letting us brush all of his teeth.

- He's also grown four molars this month.

- He's learned a new sign: again- it's a modified sign, but he uses it appropriately (so he now knows, "yes", "more", "please", and "again". And "more" is no longer modified. He signs it correctly.

-Caleb has gotten very good at mimicking others and will attempt to say all kinds of things now. The "speech" work that I've been doing with him is really seeming to help, which is awesome. I love when I can see the fruits of my labor. :)

- He is definitely calling Jeff "Daddy" more. He will call "daddy" to get Jeff's attention. The other day he even looked at Jeff, said, "daddy" and then pointed to me and said what sounded like "I want that". So basically, I am still "that". But he does say "Mama" when he wants to be picked up or when he needs help with something- so Mama doesn't mean me... it means, "help" or "pick me up". Though sometimes at night, even if Jeff has Caleb, he will call "Mama"- so maybe he's starting to make the connection.

- He has definitely learned Mama and Daddy's rolls in our household. He loves to play with Daddy when he comes home and sometimes wants nothing to do with me.

Teeth look great! :)

Playing in the rain (on a 40 degree day) for the first time.

He loved playing in the puddles.

Caleb loves to look out the window and wait for Daddy to come home.

Finger painting- yes his hair is up so it wouldn't get in his eyes while he's trying to paint.

Caleb loves to build towers. He built this all by himself. Then he likes to knock them down, but before he does so, he acts like he's going to knock it down and then he squeals while in the process. It's so funny.

Before is first haircut (on Dec. 24th)
After his first haircut.

A side view of his new "do".
- He LOVES to stack things. He'll stack (or pile) shoes, tupperware containers, dishcloths, clothes, toys, movie cases, etc. He is really great at stacking blocks and can stack up to nearly his height all by himself.

- He is getting really good at climbing things- which is kind of scary.

- He gives the best hugs! If you ask for a big squeeze, and he's in the mood, he'll give you the biggest, best squeeze. It truly is the best thing for bad days. :)

- He is definitely exerting his independence these days. He lets us know when he doesn't want to be bothered or doesn't want to do things.

- He suddenly decided that bananas are no longer his favorite fruit.

-He's really fallen in love with yogurt. He loves blueberries and strawberries, apples, sweet potatoes, frozen peas (not from a can, not that he gets much from a can anyway), green beans, carrots. He also loves mac-n-cheese that I make.

-We tried a gluten-free diet for him this month for a couple of weeks, but didn't really see much difference in his behavior or bowels or anything.

-He got his first hair-cut the day before he turned 18 months old (Christmas Eve) and did great.

- His sleeping patterns have really gotten wonky all over again. So we're going to be starting sleep training with him, yet again. We've got to get a better routine before our new little bean joins us in a couple of months.

- He is quite the joy and loves to laugh. He knows when he's funny. He has the best facial expressions.

- He loves to sing and is starting to get the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

- He has figured out how to get some of his pants off (not all of them). He has also figured out how to pull his arms out of long-sleeved shirts, but can't figure out how to get his head out.  And he likes to assist in getting dressed. He has become really picking with his clothes lately. If something's not right, he has a hard time dealing. He also hates to wear a jacket, unless he is really cold. He doesn't like to wear things that are tight around his ankles or wrists and will fight me when trying to get him dressed. But, often times, he'll get over the feeling of having his clothes on after awhile- especially if he knows he's getting dressed to go somewhere. He'd prefer to have nothing on but his diaper though. :)

Overall, life is pretty grand with this little guy. And as you will notice in the previous post, this past month has been just filled with so much fun (and wonder- he loved all of the Christmas lights he saw. He would light up, his eyes would get really big and he'd gasp and say, "What's that?!!" It was so adorable!)
